Lúnasa is the Gaelic word for August but it comes from the old Irish word Lughnasadh. It was an ancient celtic festival to mark beginning of the harvest season named after the pagan god Lugh. It inspired great gatherings where there was feasting, drinking, dancing, games and matchmaking (an average Saturday night out in Longford).
